Our Community Mission

ADHD India Community exists to provide peer support, understanding, and resources for individuals and families affected by ADHD across India. We are a safe space where members can share experiences, learn from each other, and find the support they need on their ADHD journey.

Remember: We are a peer support community, not medical professionals. Our strength lies in shared experiences, mutual understanding, and collective wisdom.

Respectful Communication Standards

✅ Encouraged Communication:

  • Empathetic Responses: Acknowledge others' experiences with understanding and compassion
  • Supportive Language: Use encouraging words that uplift and validate others
  • Active Listening: Read messages carefully before responding
  • Inclusive Language: Welcome people from all backgrounds, ages, and experiences
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Respect diverse Indian cultural backgrounds and family structures
  • Constructive Sharing: Share experiences in ways that help others learn and grow

❌ Communication to Avoid:

  • Dismissive or minimizing language ("just try harder," "everyone has ADHD")
  • Judgmental comments about parenting, lifestyle, or personal choices
  • Discriminatory language based on gender, religion, caste, region, or economic status
  • Aggressive or confrontational tone
  • Interrupting or dominating conversations
  • Sharing graphic or disturbing content without warnings
Privacy Protection for Members

Protecting Your Privacy:

  • Use First Names Only: Share only your first name or a preferred name
  • Limit Personal Details: Be cautious about sharing identifying information
  • Consider Long-term Impact: Remember that group messages can be screenshot
  • Professional Boundaries: Don't share workplace or school-specific details that could identify you

Protecting Others' Privacy:

  • No Screenshots: Never screenshot or share others' messages outside the group
  • Confidentiality: Keep group discussions within the community
  • Consent Required: Always ask before sharing someone else's story or experience
  • No Personal Information Sharing: Never share others' phone numbers, addresses, or personal details

Family and Children's Privacy:

  • Parents should be mindful when sharing details about their children
  • Use general terms rather than specific identifying information
  • Consider your child's future privacy when sharing their experiences
  • Respect that children may not want their information shared
Prohibited Content and Behavior

🚫 Strictly Prohibited:

  • Medical Advice: Diagnosing, prescribing medications, or providing medical treatment recommendations
  • Professional Impersonation: Claiming to be a doctor, therapist, or other professional without verification
  • Harassment or Bullying: Any form of intimidation, persistent unwanted contact, or targeted harassment
  • Hate Speech: Content that promotes hatred or discrimination against any group
  • Spam and Self-Promotion: Excessive advertising, MLM schemes, or unrelated promotional content
  • Dangerous Content: Promoting unproven treatments, dangerous substances, or harmful behaviors
  • Privacy Violations: Sharing others' personal information without explicit consent
  • Off-Topic Disruption: Consistently derailing conversations with unrelated topics

⚠️ Use Caution With:

  • Sharing specific medication experiences (focus on general experiences, not recommendations)
  • Discussing controversial treatments (present as personal experience, not advice)
  • Political or religious topics (only if directly related to ADHD support)
  • Graphic descriptions of mental health struggles (use content warnings)
Positive Contribution Guidelines

Ways to Contribute Positively:

  • Share Personal Experiences: Your journey can inspire and help others
  • Ask Thoughtful Questions: Engage the community in meaningful discussions
  • Offer Emotional Support: Sometimes a kind word makes all the difference
  • Share Resources: Books, apps, articles, or tools that have helped you
  • Celebrate Successes: Share wins, both big and small
  • Welcome New Members: Help newcomers feel included and supported
  • Practice Active Listening: Engage meaningfully with others' posts

Quality Over Quantity:

  • Focus on meaningful contributions rather than frequent posting
  • Take time to craft thoughtful responses
  • Consider how your message will be received by others
  • Contribute to discussions rather than starting new topics unnecessarily
Reporting Procedures and Support

When to Report:

  • Violations of community guidelines
  • Harassment or bullying behavior
  • Inappropriate medical advice being given
  • Privacy violations or sharing of personal information
  • Spam or excessive self-promotion
  • Content that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable

How to Report:

  • WhatsApp Groups: Contact group administrators directly
  • Website Issues: Use our contact form or email support
  • Urgent Concerns: Contact multiple administrators for faster response
  • Anonymous Reporting: Available through our website contact form

What Happens After Reporting:

  • Reports are reviewed promptly and confidentially
  • We investigate all reports thoroughly
  • Appropriate action is taken based on severity
  • Reporters are updated on resolution when appropriate
  • False reporting may result in consequences
Consequences for Guideline Violations

Progressive Enforcement:

  • First Violation: Private warning and education about guidelines
  • Second Violation: Temporary removal from groups (24-48 hours)
  • Serious Violations: Immediate temporary or permanent removal
  • Severe Violations: Permanent ban and potential legal action

Factors Considered:

  • Severity and impact of the violation
  • Intent behind the behavior
  • Previous violation history
  • Willingness to acknowledge and correct behavior
  • Impact on community safety and well-being

Appeal Process:

  • Members may appeal enforcement decisions
  • Appeals are reviewed by different administrators
  • New evidence or context may be considered
  • Final decisions are made in the best interest of community safety
Support for Members in Crisis

If You're Struggling:

  • Remember that you're not alone - the community is here to support you
  • Reach out to trusted community members or administrators
  • Consider professional help for serious mental health concerns
  • Contact local emergency services if you're having thoughts of self-harm

Supporting Others in Crisis:

  • Listen without judgment and offer emotional support
  • Encourage professional help when appropriate
  • Alert administrators if someone expresses thoughts of self-harm
  • Respect boundaries and don't try to be a therapist
